Kasia's paper on alkali metal changes in JACS

November 2014

Congratulations to Kasia on the publication of her JACS paper on alkali metal control over Fe-based N-N cleavage. This paper involved the synthesis and isolation of many extremely sensitive compounds, and gave important insight into how multi-iron sites can break N2. Great job!

Welcome to Bechir

September 2014

A warm welcome to our newest group member, Bechir-Auguste Pierre. Bechir is joining us for his senior thesis research. We’re looking forward to working with you!

Chem. Commun. paper

August 2014

A new paper from Richard and Cory reports the two-electron reduction of a bridging pyridine. Great work from Team Pyridine!

Guest researcher Prof. Meisu Zhou

August 2014

We are happy to welcome Prof. Meisu Zhou, a professor from Shanxi University, who will be staying in our labs for three months doing organometallic research.

New paper in JACS

July 2014

Congratulation to Cory, whose Communication recently appeared in J. Am. Chem. Soc. This paper describes the surprising finding that after our reduced iron species cleave the N-N bond of N2, they can rapidly reform the bond to produce N2 again. These results demonstrate that our multiiron complexes lower the activation barriers to both the cleavage and formation of N-N triple bonds. Great job, Cory!

Summer researchers

July 2014

We’re happy to have several guest researchers in our lab this summer. We’ve been joined by Yale undergraduate students Billal Mourtada and David Minoli, who have each successfully prepared interesting group ligand syntheses. Incoming graduate student Gannon Connor has jumped into the thick of a new pincer ligand in the group. Finally, we hosted Elitsour Rozen, a Ph.D. student from the lab of our collaborator Prof. Chaim Sukenik (Bar-Ilan University, Israel).

Moved into new labs

May 2014

We have now shifted into freshly renovated labs in the Kline Chemistry Laboratory. The space is really nice, and kudos to the building team as well as to the eternally patient students who tolerated two lab moves within a year. We are now making progress at full speed in the new space!

Congratulations to Dr. Sarina Bellows

March 2014

A big congrats to our newest group graduate, Sarina Bellows, who completed her Ph.D. on new ligands, new reactions, and lots of computations. We look forward to more great chemistry accomplishments in the future!

New paper in Chemical Science

January 2014

Karen Chiang's paper on the details of reactivity of iron complexes with N2 was published in Chemical Science. This paper is a great demonstration of how multiple iron atoms work together to bind N2 effectively.

Welcome to new group members!

December 2013

We have been joined by first-year graduate students Dan DeRosha and Sean McWilliams, and undergraduate students Gia Velasquez and Emma Brennan-Wydra. We look forward to working with you.
